After the death of my dear friend, Elaine, I was thinking about the Cosmos and the seemingly endless fractals of life.  Mostly, I was thinking of Nebulas - the cosmic nurseries for new stars and planets. To form a Nebula however, a star must first succumb to its own stellar death.   Birth, followed by death, and from its death, comes life - A mortal cycle that even the stars cannot escape.

And so, it was this circular reference that made me think of my friend's "new beginnings."  She is out there, somewhere, perhaps not in the context I am familiar with but rather, one the expanding universe secretly understands.

The following photos are my interpretation of these nebulas and planets through the inner wonders of glass marbles.  With my camera focused deep inside these small glass cages, extraordinary universes revealed themselves. With color, light, and energy abound, each marble was a small reminder that just like most things in life, the surface does not tell the whole story.

Honestly, I don't know the whole story...the big picture...the meaning of life or the meaning of death.    I do know I still feel the love of my friend and I know she would be very happy to discover my camera actually does take color photos.  A small and funny reminder that perhaps it's the simple things that unlock the secrets of the universe...like marbles.
